To our continuing scholars, WELCOME BACK to the 2025/26 school year at Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy. To our new parents and scholars, we are excited about your decision to become an official member of the CSK family! We are elated and highly anticipating what we know will be a phenomenal school year. Each year we strive to provide a true “private school experience in our public school setting.” Although we are growing in numbers, we have worked to maintain small class sizes (18:1) in our core content classes.
Our goal for the upcoming school year is to continue in our strides to improve academic outcomes by embracing rigor, remediation, and enrichment through explicit and direct instruction. In making this goal a reality, we will proceed “Full STEAM Ahead” in our efforts to create authentic and empowering academic experiences and exposure that champions the status quo. This year, we have expanded our advanced placement offerings to embrace rigor. We have also created more opportunities for middle school students to earn high school credit through CTAE pathways, world languages, and core content classes. Finally, in our efforts to be in alignment with Atlanta Public Schools and the state of Georgia, we will be embracing new education legislation that went into effect on July 1, 2025. We will review new laws during Open House.
What’s New at CSK
Because we know what’s truly needed in order to ensure that each scholar graduates globally conscious and is ready for college and career, we will be making significant changes to design and support a more laser-like focus on academics.
- CSK will abide by the newly adopted local and state governance policies pertaining to the use of personal devices (cellular phones, headsets, Meta glasses, smart watches, Ipads etc..) during the instructional day.
- Students will NOT be allowed to have personal devices during the school day. Students must lock their phones and other personal smart devices (smart watches and Meta glasses) in a pouch upon entering the school at the beginning of the school day. Students will unlock pouches at the end of the school day and return pouches for use on the following day.
- Due to substantial budget cuts, students will be charged a fee for mandatory lockers. Lockers can be purchased for $10.00 during the week of Open House or the first week of school through the front office staff. All students are expected to secure a locker. NOTE: Bookbags are not allowed in the classrooms.
- All students are expected to maintain a notebook for all core classes (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies). Notebook grades will count as 10% of final grades.
STUDENT DAILY EXPECTATIONS
- Students are expected to arrive at school between 8:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. in order to report to their first class by 8:30 a.m.
- Students should report to each class on time. Attendance will be taken during the first 15 minutes of each class to denote whether students are present, absent, or tardy. All students are expected to maintain an Average Daily Attendance of >90%. Parents of students with more than 3 unexcused absences will be required to meet with the Whole Child Intervention team to address attendance concerns.
- Students should come dressed according to the CSK dress code. (Khaki, chocolate brown, or pink pants with pink, white or brown collared shirts. All hoodies should also be pink, brown or white (no hair bonnets, hair scarves, or bandanas etc.)
- Students should come prepared daily with the school supplies needed to complete all learning tasks (fully charged laptops, chargers, paper, pencil, notebooks etc.)
- Laptops will be issued to all students. * Continuing students must return their 24/25 assigned laptop before being issued a new device.
- Students are expected to attend tutorial sessions for additional support in any classes with missing assignments or failing grades.
