1. What are the Pathways to Certification with Atlanta Public Schools?
- Traditional Certification
- Alternative Certification

2. What are the requirements for each pathway?

3. I am looking to change career paths. Is there a Pathway that I could talk to use my work experience to teach?
Depending on your occupational experience, you may qualify for a Permit or the Non-Certification Pathway.

4. I currently hold a Nonrenewable Certification with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Am I eligible for the APS No certification route?
Once you hold a certificate issued by the GaPSC, you may NOT opt for the Non-Certification pathway with Atlanta Public Schools.
Please note that this excludes Paraprofessional certificates and Clearance certificates. These certificates are eligible for the Non-Certification pathway.

5. Can I teach Special Education, Gifted, or ESOL under the Non-Certification Pathway?
No. Atlanta Public Schools cannot waiver certification requirements for these fields. In order to teach, you must gain state certification.

6. Is coursework required if I opt for the Non-Certification route? What is the investment Participants who opt for Non-Certification Pathway will be required to complete a year-long Induction, Empowering Teachers Program which includes:
- Professional Development (PD) coursework and Seminars conducted by MRESA (cost $600)
- Clinical Supervision & Support (job-embedded)
- Culminating Assessments
- Positive performance observations and evaluations
- Meet annual PD requirements each year of ongoing employment

7. If I opt for the Non-Certification route, will I receive a certificate?
Yes; however, you will only receive a Clearance certification. The Non-certification route only allows you to gain certification for employment with Atlanta Public Schools. You will not be certified with the State of Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).
