Midtown Summer Academy is a full-day summer program for all grade levels that combines literacy and math learning each morning and hands-on lessons through Power Up programming in the afternoon. Students will have the opportunity to receive in-person instruction that will help to address unfinished learning and academic learning loss, hands-on lessons via Power Up Programming in an engaging environment with embedded whole-child and social-emotional support.

The Summer Academy will have two distinct sessions:
Session 1 (Morning): Implement district selected intervention programming focused on literacy and mathematics and the integration of social-emotional learning, four hours per day, five days a week at Virginia-Highland ES.
Session 2 (Afternoon): Offer APS Power Up programming (STEM/STEAM) at approximately 60-120 minutes per day, five days a week.
My After School Program is proud to support the Midtown Cluster’s Summer School Programming! In addition to the Power-Up STEAM enrichment, we will be available for After School Summer Care. Registration is open on 5/10 @ 9am on our site, myafterschoolprogram.com .

What is the Midtown Summer Academy?

When will the program begin and end? What time is arrival and dismissal?
Posted by:Our Midtown Summer Academy will begin on June 2nd and end on June 27th. Students will not have summer academy on June 19th. Students will be able to arrive at 7:45am and they will be dismissed at 2:00pm.

Will my child be taught by a Virginia-Highland teacher?
Posted by:Teachers may be a mix of internal and external candidates. There is no guarantee that your child will have a teacher who works specifically at Hope Hill, Mary Lin, Morningside, SPARK or VHE. All teachers will be certified to teach at the elementary level. Similar to a regular school year, teachers will have support from our instructional coaches as well as support from instructional paraprofessionals.

Will bus transportation be provided?
Posted by:Yes. APS will work with the school to determine bus routes for all students enrolled in the Midtown Summer Academy at VHE!

Will breakfast and lunch be provided?
Posted by:Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all students at no cost to the families. At VHE, we have both indoor and outdoor seating. A schedule for lunch will be created to ensure that all students will be able to eat lunch outside as much as possible.

Can any child register for the Midtown Summer Academy?
Posted by:- Only students currently enrolled in a midtown cluster elementary school may register for the Midtown Summer Academy.
- Midtown families of students meeting the criteria below will soon receive letters from the district, strongly encouraging their child's registration and participation.

How do I register my child?
Posted by:All students from Hope Hill ES, Mary Lin ES, Morningside, SPARK & Virginia-Highland ES are welcome to sign up for our summer school program. We will continue to strongly encourage identified students to sign up/register. Parents may register their child by clicking on this link.
