Mrs. Mary Benton

Mary Benton has served as an educator in the Atlanta Public Schools for 18 years. She began her passion for educating children at Albany State College where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Grades Education. She received a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from University of Troy and her Specialist’s degree and Educational Leadership Certification from Lincoln Memorial University.

 

In 1995, Mrs. Benton began her APS tenure as a middle school teacher at M. L. King Middle School where she taught 8th grade Pre-Algebra and Algebra.  Two years later she was transferred to Usher Middle School where she taught 7th grade Math.  Shortly thereafter, she received a promotion as a Learning Technology Specialist, where she provided Instructional Technology training to elementary and middle schools in School Reform Team 3. After six years of providing site-based professional development for teachers and administrators, Mrs. Benton was selected to serve as Assistant Principal at Mary Lin Elementary School.  

 

In January 2011, Mrs. Benton was named Interim Principal of East Lake Elementary School.  She served as the Interim Principal until the closure of the school, June 2012.  Thereafter, she was placed at Inman Middle School, where she served as the 6th grade assistant principal for two years.

 

Now back where she started, Mrs. Benton is looking forward to supporting the students and community of Candler Park. Mrs. Benton grew up in Argyle, GA.
